Government is the first contact of the individual, the family and the community with the national health system, bringing health care as close as possible to where people live and work, and constituting the first element of a continuing health care process.
FURTHER NOTICE, that the provision of health care services is one of the fundamental objectives stated in Chapter 2 of the 1999 Constitution of Nigeria. The various levels of governments therefore, have a duty to be actively involved in the health sector considering the importance of health to the socio-economy development of any given nation.
HOWEVER, it is sad to note that Yagba West as a Local Government despite her population with fourteen wards has no General Hospital. The only health facility serving the entire Constituency is a Cottage Hospital located in ODO-ERE, the Local Government headquarters. It is equally sad that even this Cottage Hospital is not well equipped both in terms of personnel and infrastructure.
Even Though the past administration made some effort in upgrading some Cottage hospitals to general Hospitals, the Cottage hospital ODO-ERE was neglected.
The Right Hon. Speaker, Distinguished Honourable Members, taking into consideration the population of Yagba West Local Government, the need for referrals, from smaller hospitals and the need of the people to enjoy basic health care, I urge this honourable House to resolve as follow:
1.That the State Government direct the Ministry of Health to carry out an on-the-spot assessment of the Cottage Hospital, Odo-Ere with a view to upgrade it to a General Hospital.
I so moved.
Dated this 10th November, 2016.
Hon. Oluwatoyin Lawal,
Member representing
Yagba West Constituency.
