My name is Iyekeji Iyaode, I was employed by the administration
of Alhaji Idris Wada into the Fadama Rice Project in 2013. I spent one year
working without salary
just like every other persons employed along with me. By
the second year we started receiving salaries.
At the end of the second year, I applied for a masters program
at the University
of Ilorin and fortunately
I got admitted. Because my appointment has not been confirmed, I applied for
study leave without pay because in the civil service , there are different
types of study leaves:
1) study
leave with pay (for confirmed staff)
2) study
at leisure (for confirmed staff)
3) study
without pay (for unconfirmed staff)
My office approved the “study leave without pay” which I was
qualified to apply for and then I wrote for the stoppage of my salary which was
approved then I proceeded to school. Upon the completion of my programme, I wrote
back to the establishment that I am done with studies and I was absorb back,
then came the screening.
It was a rude shock to me therefore that the committee insisted
that because I wasn’t confirmed, despite providing all proof that I didn’t receive
a penny while away and that my leave was approved, I was told to go, they never
cared to look at the civil service scheme of service that empowers me to
proceed on study without pay, they just conclude instantly that I should go.
This is the height of man inhumanity to man.
I wrote a letter of appeal to the governor for a review of
my case because I have a very genuine case, up till now, nothing has been heard
or done; only God knows the people who have been unjustly shoved aside by the
screening committee unjustly and wickedly.
It is very sad to note that the people in the screening committee
do not look at the scheme of service in dealing with civil servants; possibly
they do not know of its existence, they just pick on irrelevant issues to
remove many genuine civil servants from the service. Where is the fairness if I
may ask? Where is the justice? When they cook up excuse to throw you out?
I have worked for this state for a year without receiving a
penny and do not deserve to be thrown out of the service. I have responsibilities;
I AM NOT A GHOST WORKER. Let the governor ask the committee to be fair and not
just a public charade they always put up.
